Arafura Barra

The NEW Arafura Barra Lure from Lively Lures has gained an enormous allegiance of fans in recent times as it continues to out perform other lures within the tough impoundment barramundi world. This model comes in two sizes - a 5 inch (13cm) and a 6 inch (15cm). Originally designed for Australia's barramundi (a similar habitat fish to the US snook), it has proven deadly on many inshore, estuary and impoundment species. As well it has proven to be a hit with inshore tunas, kingfish, trevally, snappers and many more.
The action is super with a vibrating, quick rolling action that tightens up as the speed increases.

Sizes & Weights
Available in two sizes, the '130' (26 grams) and the '150' (35 grams).

Platypus 2lb Super-Braid wins best line at the Australian Fishing Tackle Show 2005

WORLD FIRST
Platypus releases 2lb Super-Braid !

As more and more anglers target Bream, Platypus has been asked to produce the thinnest braid possible. After several months of trials Platypus is proud to release the world’s only 2lb Super-Braid.

No other manufacturer has been able to produce such a thin exacting braid. Platypus 2lb Super-Braid is a true braid produced in our Brisbane factory using the finest grade of Dyneema available. Originally given only to gun Bream anglers for tournament use, we are able to now offer this incredible line to all anglers. Our experienced bream angler noted increased casting distance and the ability to catch even the spookiest fish.

Platypus 2lb Super-Braid has enough body to cast exceptionally far while being limp enough to ensure excellent handling and usability. It provides a remarkable “feel” and situation awareness using soft plastics. Flow-on advantages include crisper soft plastic actions, deeper running depths, and positive hook setting.

Word of warning: because of the incredibly fine nature of the line, better than average casting skills and reasonable eyesight are required.

Unlike thermo-fused and fusion lines, Super-Braid does not suffer from fluffing after the fused coating begins to break apart. As the fluffy line is retrieved it creates a larger wake than normol braided line, this can be a disadvantage for stealth fishing. When anglers need every advantage they can get, Super-Braid 2lb delivers!

Platypus is 100% Australian owned, operated and manufactured product

Farewell Don “Mr Platypus”
Donald McPherson 1939-2005

Born May 8, 1939, Don McPherson started working in the family business at the age of 17. The company was established by his grandfather in 1898, and is still owned and operated by the McPherson family.
As a highly respected and innovative person Don soon developed man new nylon processes that have aided anglers in their pursuit of the sport for the past 3 decades. Such advancements are found within the 10 different grades of lines that Platypus produce and his work and advice on fly line tippet materials and fly lines lead to a great friendship with world renowned Fly line manufacturer Jim Vincent from RIO Fly lines and leaders

Introducing Platypus Lo-Stretch a monofilament that has such low stretch it thinks it’s a braid. The advantage of braid is the incredible sensitivity you get from near zero stretch; Platypus Lo-Stretch has the lowest stretch possible from a monofilament. By capitalising on new raw material blends and state of the art manufacturing processes we are able to bring you this exceptional line.

Much has been written about the advantages of Braid; and most of it is true, but we often forget that monofilament has its place in fishing as well. Some points to consider:

Some stretch is good, braid has almost no stretch which makes the line incredibly sensitive, but can result in pulled hooks and lost fish. Platypus lo-Stretch, gives you the best of both worlds enough stretch to allow a slight shock absorbing quality with minimum stretch for maximum sensitivity.

Braid has worse knot strength than monofilament, knots for braids typically require more turns and wraps than regular knots. Good knots tied in Platypus Lo-Stretch give 100% knot strength, excellent knots tied in braid give 85% knot strength.

Platypus Lo-Stretch is more cost effective than Braid, roughly one third the price of Braid.

Platypus Lo-Stretch is available in IGFA rated 3 kg – 24 kg in 300 or 500 metres in your choice of Pink or Blue.
