In business, the more organized you are, the better prepared
you are, the more success you will have. To a fisherman the opportunity and
reward that comes from being organized has many advantages. This includes;
a) Being better prepared to adapt on the water.
b) Keeping your tackle in perfect condition allowing
you trouble free usage when you need it most.
c) And it reduces expensive breakdown and troubles
Here are some handy tips to help you to get better organized.
Utilize specific tackle boxes for specific lures. I keep all of my lures in different tackle boxes that contain only that type of lure. For example, I have one box for surface lures, one box for shallow crankbaits, on box for minnow style jerkbaits and another for deep running crankbaits. I even have these individual boxes broken down by colour type or action, allowing me a quick selection once I have determined the water clarity. This same scenario is also used when I am sorting my plastic’s. These are broken into categories relation to the style of plastic i.e. grubs, shads, creature baits etc. They are also divided into colour/water clarity groups and remember to always keep soft plastics of the same colour together as they have a tendency to “bleed” into one another. Next is jig heads or weights, which are easily sorted by weight and type. Along with a box of incidentals like spare split rings, swivels, trebles, and single hook patterns my kit is almost ready.
There are a multitude of tackle storage systems, my personal favourite are the Plano 3700 and the new Plano 3710’s with an O’ring seal to keep water/moisture from getting into your valuables. I use this for most of my lures as it has plenty of removable dividers and holds plenty of lures. These boxes allow me to add and remove tackle from my boat easily to adapt to what I may need on the water. These can easily be stored or transported in a soft-side bag.
Lastly, other essentials to consider include pliers, scents, spare fishing line, a knife, first aid kit, sunscreen, water and a camera to take some great shots of your catch. Remember, the little extra time spent preparing before each trip will pay huge dividends and make the whole experience more rewarding and enjoyable.
